Silvia Persico is third in the second stage of the Tour de France Femmes

In the second stage of the Tour de France Femmes Silvia Persico took third place on the podium.

In the second stage of the Tour de France Femmes, 151.7 km from Clermont-Ferrand to Mauriac, Silvia Persico took third place on the podium.

A cold and sometimes rainy day, a breathtaking sprint won by Liane Lippert (Movistar Team) ahead of yellow jersey Lotte Kopecky (SD Worx) and Persico in third place. A very prestigious result for the team that did an exceptional job and that in the leading group also counted Erica Magnaldi, Olivia Baril and Eleonora Gasparrini.

The day was characterised by a long breakaway, which was then cancelled in the final kilometres. Our riders always remained in the group in total control.

As expected on the final climb, the best were selected and our team managed to keep four riders in front. Then in the final Persico played her cards in the sprint.

Silvia Persico said: "It was a very difficult day. I have to say thank you to all my teammates who did a great job today, we remained very united and in the final we gave our best. It could have gone better for me, but I am still happy with this third place and tomorrow we will certainly have another opportunity".
