Again today Chiara Consonni and UAE Team ADQ showed their power on the walls and cobblestones of the Dwars door Vlaanderen.

Again today Chiara Consonni and UAE Team ADQ showed their power. Chapeau to the winner Demi Vollering of SD Worx who escaped all alone in the final kilometres. But our Chiara fought like a lioness on the walls and cobblestones of the Dwars door Vlaanderen and after 114.9 kilometres won the main bunch sprint for second place on the finish line in Waregem (Belgium).

The Emirates team lined up Marta Bastianelli, Chiara Consonni, Eugenia Bujak, Eleonora Gasparrini, Alena Amialiusik and Laura Tomasi. Their work in support of Consonni was excellent on a day that was once again very difficult and played out intensely from the first kilometres.

Many attacks always controlled by the group. In the decisive moment, then the group of the best was selected, in which Chiara Consonni and the young Eleonora Gasparrini inserted themselves. The latter did the last work in support of her teammate, who then played out her chances as best she could. Unfortunately, in the last 10 kilometres the peloton was surprised by the lone attack of Demi Vollering, who won the race. After 38 seconds, the main bunch sprint won for second place by 23-year-old Italian Chiara Consonni, who finished ahead of Marianne Vos (Jumbo-Visma).

An important placing as Chiara Consonni's words testify: “I am very happy. Yes a pity because I could have won the race, but more than that I couldn’t do today. Finally a podium place came. The race was much harder than last year because from the start there were many attacks by SD Worx, Team DSM, Jumbo-Visma and Movistar. But we always managed to come back thanks also to the work of Trek-Segafredo. Unfortunately, against Vollering's last attack we didn't respond. However, I am very happy with this result after the bad luck of the last few races. Also today my whole team worked very well and always helped me to take the walls in the first positions. A podium that gives us great morale for the races in the coming days”.

UAE Team ADQ will return to competition on Sunday 2^nd April for the Ronde van Vlaanderen - Tour des Flandres (1.WWT), also in Belgium. Start at 13:30 and finish at 17:45 CEST. The race will be broadcast live on Eurosport/GCN from 15:00 CEST.
