Challenge Mallorca: Gasparrini wins in Andratx

January 22, 2024

It was a magical day for UAE Team ADQ with a splendid victory for Eleonora Gasparrini in the Trofeo Binissalem-Andratx.

It was a magical day for UAE Team ADQ, which concluded the Challenge Ciclista Mallorca Femenina with a splendid victory for Eleonora Gasparrini in the Trofeo Binissalem-Andratx (1.1), the third and final round of the challenge raced on the main island of the Belearic Islands. After 114.3 kilometres, from Binissalem to Andratx, and perfect race tactics, our athletes gave an outstanding choral performance and Gasparrini was the splendid finisher. For the 21-year-old Italian rider it was the third victory in her career, the first of the season, and also the first victory of 2024 for the Emirati team, which in the previous two days had failed to collect the full result it would have deserved for its performance. Also of note was the tenth place for Silvia Persico.

After Chiara Consonni's third place on the first day, and Silvia Persico's fifth yesterday at the end of an unlucky day, today everything went according to plan. As the race got into full swing, the peloton pressed the accelerator to close the gap on the day's breakaway rider. Silvia Persico, Eleonora Gasparrini, Erica Magnaldi and Tereza Neumanova did a great job in the front group before the final climb. Magnaldi then forged ahead and in the finale Silvia Persico made a textbook lead-out for her teammate Eleonora Gasparrini, who was uncatchable in the sprint for all the rivals. Ruegg and Quagliotto are on the podium.

Eleonora Gasparrini said after the finish: “What a race, I am so happy. Yesterday I was a bit disappointed because it had not been a great day for me and I had not been able to help my teammates as I wanted, but today was a completely different day. Fortunately, I felt in great shape, my legs were spinning well and the team did a great job. I have to say thank you to all my teammates”.
